Day 1 Arrival at Sofia airport. Transfer to the hotel, accommodation.Dinner. Overnight stay in Sofia.

 

Day 2 Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of Sofia – Visit to Alexander Nevski Cathedral - one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in Europe, as well as one of Sofia's symbols and a primary tourist attraction; St. George Rotunda, St. Sofia Church, built by the roman emperor Justinian in the 6th century, the National Theatre, the former Royal Palace, the Presidency, etc. Free time in the city centre and main shopping area around Vitosha Boulevard. Visit to the National Museum of History.Advanced booking is required. National Museum of History in Sofia is one of the largest history museums on the Balkans with 650.000 exhibits and the largest archaeological and historical archive. The Museum's collections are its greatest treasure. They comprise materials from Prehistoric ages till nowadays. The National Museum of History was established on 1973.Overnight stay in Sofia.

Day 3  Breakfast. Departure to Rila Monastery(UNESCO)- the largest monastery in Bulgaria, founded in the 10th century by the monk and hermit St. John of Rila, patron and protector of Bulgaria. Rila Monastery is the most exquisite example of monastery art and architecture in Bulgaria. Visit of Nativity of the Virgin Church with its miraculous icon of the Virgin and splendid gilded iconostasis, the Monastery kitchen, the museum, keeping the long and heroic history of the monastery, the wonderful wood-carved cross made for a period of twelve years by a monk called Rafael, Hrelyu's Tower and many spectacular views of the mountain and the surrounding nature. Departure to Plovdiv – one of Europe’s most ancient cities, older than Athens, Rome and Constantinople. Arrival. Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner. Day 4  Breakfast. Sightseeing of Plovdiv – a tour of the old town, which consists of one of the most spectacular ensembles of town houses from the period of the Bulgarian National Revival (middle of the 18th century until the end of the 19th century). Visit to the Saints Constantine and Helena Church, Roman Theatre. Visit of the Ethnographic Museum offering a wide range of objects from furniture and jewellery to traditional handicrafts and housed in an exceptional house built in 1847 by the Greek merchant Argir Koyumdjiuglu. Visit of the museum of Zlatyu Boyadzhiev – one of the most eminent Bulgarian postwar painters. Dinner. Overnight stay in Plovdiv.

Option: Visit to an open air performances at the Antique Theatre, Plovdiv

 


Day 5 Breakfast. Departure to Kazanlak .Visit of Kazanlak – the city of artists, roses and Thracian kings. Visit to the Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak (UNESCO).The tomb is part of a great Thracian necropolis that dates back to the 4th century BC. It has been part of the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage since 1979. Visit to the Kazanlak Rose Museum, which has unique exhibits relevant to the production of rose oil from the year 1660 until today.Rose Museumis  the only one in the world, visit to the Ethnographical complex in Kazanlak. Departure to Veliko Tarnovo. Arrival. Overnight stay in Veliko Tarnovo.

 


Day 6  Breakfast. Sightseeing in Veliko Tarnovo – Tsarevets hill, Samovodska Charshia. A visit to the historical village of Arbanasi - the Konstantsaliev’s House – one of the biggest and most lavishly decorated houses of the Bulgarian National Revival and at the Church of the Nativity of Christ, the oldest church in Arbanasi, unique with its frescoes. Return to Veliko Tarnovo. Dinner. Possibility to attend the “Sound and Light” show on Tsarevets hill (additional payment). Overnight in Veliko Tarnovo.

Boyana Chirch

Day 7   Breakfast. Departure toSofia.Visit to the Boyana Church (UNESCO). Boyana Church is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church situated in the Boyana Suburb, near Sofia. The monument is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This site is one of the most completely and perfectly preserved monuments of east European medieval art. The frescoes in the church, painted in 1259, make it one of the most important collections of medieval paintings

 

Day8  Breakfast. Transfer to Sofia airport. Departure.

 

The program includes: 7 nights on BB basis – 3 nights in Sofia, 2 night in Plovdiv, 2 nights in Veliko Tarnovo; transfer with an air-conditioned minivan, minibus or coach; English speaking guide throughout the entire trip, visit to a performance in Sofia Opera house and the State Opera Plovdiv
